Vita Mahjong Game Modes

Vita Mahjong separates ordinary levels, Daily, themed challenges, Journey and Active Mind. They share tile matching but differ in objectives and rewards. An event countdown is a deadline for that event, not necessarily a timer on each board.

Ordinary levels: the main ladder

The main sequence contains thousands of boards, with denser layouts as you progress. Individual difficulty can vary; do not assume every next number is strictly harder. Ordinary levels have no timer, so you can inspect a board at your own pace.

Start here to learn the matching rule. The levels guide explains progression and why a level number is not a universal board solution. For a first session with an older player, see screen and settings advice.

Daily: one calendar board

Daily offers a fresh, usually simple board each day. Clear the whole layout in a short sitting. Missed days remain available during the current month in the documented system; completing all days earns a badge that remains in the achievement history.

It is a useful short session because it has separate progress from the main ladder. The catch-up window ends with the month, so it does not wait indefinitely. Our Daily guide explains the calendar and missing-content checks.

Themed challenge: points and standings

The documented themed challenge changes every 24 hours, with themes such as a panda. Matching its featured items adds points. Eligible ordinary levels and Journey play can contribute to the same challenge, and the standings show your position. Higher placements receive larger hint and shuffle rewards; check the current reward panel for exact amounts.

Journey: a weekly sequence

The documented Journey contains levels 1 through 91 and changes completely each week. Treat that count as the documented format, not a promise that every future event will have exactly 91 boards.

Its objective can be to remove the marked or hidden tiles of the current theme. You may finish without clearing every unrelated tile. Rewards include Journey badges, hints and shuffles, with optional rewarded ads offering more of the displayed reward.

Check the countdown if you care about finishing. Unfinished Journey and themed-challenge progress expires with its period. Main levels have no such event deadline; Daily has the separate month-end catch-up limit.

Active Mind: a separate puzzle set

Active Mind is intended for attention and memory practice and is separate from the main ladder. The memory page explains what that means and why studies of other mahjong activities do not prove a health benefit from this app.

Some websites call ordinary untimed play “classic mode” or “relaxed play.” Those descriptions do not establish additional official mode buttons. Our browser game is another distinction: it is Mah, with its own layouts and settings.

Other home-screen sections

The documented home screen also includes a profile avatar, badge history and themes. The profile lets you change the picture, background and frame. Badges record Daily and Journey achievements. Themes change tile designs and table backgrounds.

Daily and the themed standings appear around the central area in the documented layout, while Journey shows its remaining time. Updates can move these controls; use the labels and objective text rather than relying solely on their position.

Daily tasks are not the Daily puzzle

The task system is separate from the calendar board: the documented format has three daily tasks, each with three stages. Stage one gives one hint and one shuffle; stages two and three give two of each. Watching an optional ad can double the displayed reward.

Eligible actions count across modes, allowing you to complete tasks during ordinary levels or Journey. Check and claim rewards, and verify the current amounts before relying on an older description. Saving helpers can be useful when later boards have few easily visible pairs.

Event names follow their theme, such as a panda or fu, rather than a permanent numbered catalog. Individual board names can also change between releases.

Choose by the kind of session you want

New players can start with the main ladder and try other home-screen modes once available. Choose based on the objective rather than assuming all buttons lead to the same kind of level.

Frequently asked questions

Does Vita Mahjong have a timer?

Ordinary levels are untimed. Journey and themed challenges have event deadlines shown by their countdowns. Those deadlines are different from a timer forcing each move.

What is Journey?

A weekly themed sequence, documented with 91 levels. Some boards require only their marked or hidden objective tiles, and rewards include badges and helpers. Check the current event for changes.

How is Daily different from ordinary levels?

It is one dated board with a calendar reward. Missed days can be completed within the current month, and a complete month earns a badge.

How does the themed challenge work?

A documented 24-hour event awards points for eligible themed tiles and play. Standings determine rewards; inspect the current event screen for its exact rules.

What does Active Mind offer?

A separate collection intended for memory and attention practice. It is not evidence of medical treatment or proven prevention of memory decline.

Can I keep playing without a board timer?

Yes, ordinary levels provide untimed play. Daily also does not require racing a board timer, but its calendar has a month-end limit. Do not confuse Mah browser timer settings with the app.
